About Deborah

Deborah, our resident Physiotherapist & Sports Rehabilitator, is a native of Mitchelstown, Co. Cork. Deborah qualified in 2009 with a BSc Honours degree in Sports & Exercise Rehabilitation having previously studied Physiology & Health Science. As part of this degree, Deborah undertook four months of work experience in Philadelphia, where she worked with a variety of elite university athletes and as a result has gained extensive experience in diagnosing, treating and managing a wide range of complaints.

Upon her return from the US, Deborah continued to work with a variety of GAA teams as well as a number of non-sporting patients in her area.

Before coming to work in Cork she completed a two years Masters Degree in Physiotherapy and is now a registered member of The Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.

The Masters enabled Deborah to gain a wider understanding of the complaints within the general population ranging from children to the elderly.

Deborah herself has a keen interest in sport, playing both ladies football and camogie with her local club. In the last number of years Deborah has taken to running and has now completed a number of half marathons as well as completing her first full marathon in May 2014. She also had the fortune of competing internationally in gymnastics as a member of the Irish Youth Gymnastics team. Deborah has strong beliefs in patient education and uses a mixture of hands-on and self- management approaches to care. She has a passion for rehabilitation and is very pro-active in her approach to injury rehabilitation and prevention.

She uses a combination of manual techniques, pilates, neural mobilisation, deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy to treat a wide variety of complaints.

Deborah is also certified in kinesiotaping for acute swelling and injury management and sports specific enhancement. The kinesiotaping method is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while allowing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.

Deborah has also trained with the APPI for physio pilates which is used widely here at the clinic to rehabilitate young and old following back injury. Deborah also runs classes from the clinic on a number of days.

About Denise

Denise graduated from the University of Limerick in 2011 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy. She is a registered member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists.

In 2012, Denise began working in an acute hospital in Singapore. During her 2 years here, she worked in the hospital setting, completing rotations in areas such as Neurology/Gerontology, Respiratory/ICU, Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal/ Outpatients. During this time, she acquired experience in diagnosing, treating and managing a variety of conditions such as sports injuries, whiplash, repetitive strain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, plantar fasciitis, post-operative rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation, neurological disorders, and chronic pain. It was here that her interest in pilates and rehabilitation really sparked.

Since her return to Ireland in 2014, Denise has worked within the HSE with both adults and paediatrics presenting with a variety of musculoskeletal, orthopaedic and neurological injuries. She has also continued to work within a private practice setting and teaching pilates for beginner and intermediate clients. Denise has also worked as a community physiotherapist with Multiple Scleorsis Ireland, designing and instructing individual and group exercise and hydrotherapy classes, as well as working closely with her local GAA and rugby team.

Denise herself has a strong sporting interest, where she continues to play ladies football with her local club, and continues to complete regular 10km and 21km road races. In 2014, she completed her first full marathon. Denise has strong beliefs in patient education and uses a mixture of hands-on and self- management approaches to care.

Denise is fully committed to providing the most advanced and up to date patient centred care for her clients. She uses a combination of manual techniques, pilates, neural mobilisation, deep tissue massage and trigger point therapy to treat a wide variety of complaints. She is keen to keep up-skilling and to continue her professional development. Denise is a qualified APPI pilates instructor and has experience in running classes for clients with low back pain, SIJ dysfunction and core instability. She has also conducted pre and post-natal pilates classes. Since returning to Ireland in 2014, she has been working as a community physiotherapist within the HSE. She continues to regularly attend courses and opportunities of professional development, including her APPI (pilates) training. She completed work as a paediatric physiotherapist in Dublin South West, where she regularly instructs pilates classes for children. She has a keen interest in playing sports - running, gym and playing camogie for Naas GAA club.

About Nichola

Dr. Nichola Dunne is the director and principal Chiropractor at Douglas Chiropractic & Physiotherapy Clinic.

Although born and raised in Kilkenny, she travelled to the UK to complete her BSc. (Hons) Chiropractic degree at the University of Glamorgan in 2001. Nichola went on to become the only chiropractor in Ireland with two distinct chiropractic degrees by completing a separate MSc. Advanced Chiropractic Musculo-skeletal Reahabilitation Practice degree in 2009 at the University of Bournemouth.

Nichola has fully qualified in many additional techniques that she uses as part of her chiropractic practice, including dry needling, low-level laser therapy, Pilates and kinesiotaping.

Her chiropractic treatment goal is not only to treat and relieve pain, but to prevent long-term recurrence through specific exercise prescription and rehabilitation, preventing treatment dependence and promoting an improved quality of life.

Nichola established her chiropractic clinic in 2001 and expanded the clinic to include physiotherapy services in 2009. She developed the first combined chiropractic and physiotherapy clinic in the county, still the only combined clinic in Munster.

She is a fully accredited member of the Chiropractic Association of Ireland, Association of European Chiropractors and a member of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College.

About Yvonne

Originally from Co. Sligo, Yvonne was always involved in sports from a young age and was accustomed to seeing physiotherapists for sports injuries.
It was here she developed an interest in physiotherapy and sports injuries.

In 2003, Yvonne attended Carlow Institute of Technology to begin studies in Sports and Exercise Rehabilitation.
It was during her time in Carlow that Yvonne attended a Chiropractor for treatment for headaches and chronic neck pain.

After several treatments her headaches were improving significantly and Yvonne decided to pursue a career in Chiropractic. Yvonne qualified from the University of Glamorgan with a Masters in Chiropractic in 2010.

Since this time, Yvonne has continued to expand on her chiropractic skills by completing post graduate courses in Paediatrics, Dry Needling, Kinesiotaping, Active Release Techniques and Orthotics prescription.

She treats a wide variety of the population from the elderly to children, from Athletes to the sedentary adult and all in between. She has gained a wealth of experience from working in busy clinics in Scotland and Ireland.

Yvonne believes in not only treating and relieving pain but preventing long term recurrence through specific exercise prescription and rehabilitation, thereby promoting a healthy and active lifestyle and improved quality of life.
